Kariadi Semarang periode April 1999 sampai Agustus 1999. Kelompok terapi diberikan formula protein—poli sakaride 500 mg, sehari dua kali secara oral selama tiga bulan, sedangkan kelompok kontrol diberi plasebo.

Background. From the view point of cosmeticology, skin aging is a big problem for female in the middle of age. Many efforts have been done in the management for skin aging; such as nutrient supplement (food supplement). A new formulation containing nature cartilage polysaccharide (‘Protein-Saccharide complex’) indicated for skin aging, are available in the market.

The objective

of the study is to know the role of protein-polysaccharide formula to the skin, especially the thickness of dermo epidermal, sebum ‘level and moisture.
Methods. A randomized double blind control clinical trial was performed in 60 female subjects with skin aging, divided into two groups (treatment group and control group), during the period of April 1999—August 1999, setting at Sub—division of Medical Cosmetic Dept. of Dermato-venereology Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang. Five hundreds miligrams of protein-polysacharide formula, twice daily, orally, for three months, was given to the treatment group. Data collection were done by anamnesis, clinical examination and dermatoscopic examination, supported by Derma Scan, Corneometer and Sebumeter, and laboratory examination, as well. Student-t test and Chi-.cquare test analysis were performed in data analysis.
Results. The result revealed statistically significant improvement in the skin condition, especially epidermal & dermal thickness, sebum level, skin moisture (forehead and cheek) in the actively treatment group, compare with placebo group (p<O,00I). No serious side effect in this study. No different result in laboratory Jinding of two groups.
