Insektisida adalah bahan pembasmi hama yang dapat dipakai di bidang pertanian maupun di dalam rumah tangga. Ada tiga jenis insektisida yaitu organosfosfat, carbamat, hidrogen terklorinasi. Ketersediaan di pasaran menyebabkan terjadinya banyak penyalahgunaan. Dilakukan studi retrospektip terhadap kasus keracunan insektisida yang di otopsi di Laboratorium Ilmu Kedokteran Forensik FK UNDIP/RSDK sepanjang bulan Januari 1990 s/d Desember 1996 . Sepanjang kurun waktu tersebut terjadi keracunan fatal insektisida sebanyak 20 orang. Sembilan belas kasus (95%) meninggal karena bunuh diri menggunakan Carbanat dan satu orang (5%) keracunan organosfosfat karena kecelakaan. Korban wanita sebanyak 80% dan kebanyakan berusia antara 20 – 59 tahun. Semua korban bekerja pada pekerja yang tidak ada hubungannya dengan insektisida antara 20 – 59 tahun. Semua korban bekerja pada pekerja yang tidak ada hubungannya dengan insektisida.

Penyalahgunaan insektisida untuk tujuan bunuh diri mungkin terjadi oleh karena ketersediaannya di tingkat keluarga maupun kemudahan membeli di pasaran.

Insecticides are commonly used in agricultures as well as in household. There are three kind of insecticides found easily in Indonesia, i.e. organ phosphate, carbamate and chlorinated hydrocarbone. Their availability in the market plays an important role in their improper use.

A retrospective study to identify the characteristics of insecticide-victims from January 1990 to December 1996, and the kind of insecticide being involved was carried out in the Department of Medical Forensic, Faculty of Medicine / Dr. Kariadi Hospital, Semarang.

There was 20 insecticide-victims sent to the Department of Medical Forensic for autopsy during the 7 years period Ninety five percent victims use carbamate (Baygon) to take their own lifes and only one case (5%) died from organ phosphate by accident. Most of the victims were women (80%) with the age between 20 – 59 years of age. The occupations of all victims were not related to insecticides at all.

The abuse use of insecticides as a mean to take one”s life may to their availability and accesibility at the markets as well as household level.
