Oleh : Wilardjo

Objective: To identify cornea! sensitivity of patients with diabetes mellitus compared thai of non-diabetic.
Material and method: Cornea! sensitivity 0,1 ‘5 diabetic patients and 75 non-diabetics were measured quantitatively using niodiJled esthisiometer in the l)epartment of Ophthalmology L)r Kariadi hospital Semarang from March till July 1998.
Result: Mean cornea! sensitivity of the right eye was 4,95 ± 1,06 cm and for the left eye was 4,94 ± 1.09 cm in (he diabetics: while non diabetics control was 5, 75 ± 0,35 cm . The decreases of cornea! sensitivity of the right and the left eye did not showed any d (F> 0,05), however compared with control significant difference was noted (P < 0,001).
The decrease of cornea! sensitivity, and the duration of diabetic was significantly core!ation fr – 0,54 and P < 0,00/). Conclusion : Cornea! sensitivity of patients with diabetes mellitus is lower than normal, but there is no d(Jference of decrease between right and left eye. The duration of diabetes mel/it us was lightly related with the decrease of cornea! sensitivity.
